BODE index
A 0–10 score combining BMI, FEV₁, dyspnoea (mMRC) and six-minute walk distance to estimate death risk in COPD.

Method · Limits of application
BODE/Celli 2004: BMI/FEV₁/mMRC/6MWD, total 0–10; original, not updated BODE
The original BODE was developed for prognosis in COPD using respiratory and systemic measures, including the six-minute walk. It does not diagnose COPD or automatically provide an individual probability for a time horizon; test conditions, item definitions and eligibility must match the version.
Conditions of use
Check the population, units, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and version in the original source. A result alone does not establish a diagnosis, discharge decision or prescription.
Documented parameters
- Postbronchodilator FEV₁ · % of predicted
- Six-minute walk test distance · m
- Dyspnea (mMRC scale)
- BMI · kg/m²
4/4 reference cases checked. Numerical tests are not clinical validation.
Relationship with cancer research
General context — relationship to be defined
A resource for general clinical contexts. This edition does not assign a specific oncological relationship; selecting it for a study requires a justified question, population and purpose.
