HOMA-IR and HOMA-β
Estimates insulin resistance and β-cell secretory function from a single fasting glucose and insulin measurement in adults not using insulin.

Method · Limits of application
HOMA 1/Matthews 1985: IR glucose×insulin/22.5; beta 20 insulin/(glucose−3.5); excludes HOMA 2
HOMA depends on basal fasting concentrations and the homeostatic interaction between glucose and insulin. The original article acknowledges low precision of the estimates. Simplified HOMA1 formulas, the HOMA2 model and population cutoffs are not interchangeable; the result does not confirm an individual diagnosis of insulin resistance.
Conditions of use
Check the population, units, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and version in the original source. A result alone does not establish a diagnosis, discharge decision or prescription.
Documented parameters
- Fasting blood glucose · mg/dL
- Fasting insulin · µU/mL

General context — relationship to be defined
A resource for general clinical contexts. This edition does not assign a specific oncological relationship; selecting it for a study requires a justified question, population and purpose.
