Maddrey discriminant function
Estimates alcoholic hepatitis severity from prothrombin time and bilirubin. Values ≥ 32 identify patients with high short-term mortality who are corticosteroid candidates.

Method · Limits of application
Modified Maddrey/Carithers 1989: 4.6×(patient PT−control PT)+bilirubin; excludes original 1978 absolute-PT equation
The original 1978 function was studied in alcoholic hepatitis. The local modified form, with a prothrombin-time difference and cutoff of 32, must correspond to the later 1989 edition. The total does not replace assessment of contraindications, infection and alternative diagnoses before any therapeutic decision.
Conditions of use
Check the population, units, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and version in the original source. A result alone does not establish a diagnosis, discharge decision or prescription.

Relationship with cancer research
General context — relationship to be defined
A resource for general clinical contexts. This edition does not assign a specific oncological relationship; selecting it for a study requires a justified question, population and purpose.
