EASI/Hanifin 2001 + official HOME guide (header “EASI guidance December14”): 4 regions and 4 signs; regional averages allow 1.5 and 2.5, but not 0.5; weights <8 / ≥8 years; total 0–72
The 2001 EASI study assessed reliability among trained dermatologists in people with atopic dermatitis, in groups aged <8 and ≥8 years. The version used must apply the corresponding age weights and adequately assess signs. Instrument reliability is not diagnostic validation or language approval for local translations. The official HOME guide directs assessment of the average intensity of each sign across the entire region: it allows 1.5 and 2.5, but not 0.5, because any present sign must score at least 1. Assessment includes only inflammatory eczema; xerosis, ichthyosis, keratosis pilaris, urticaria, infection without underlying eczema and post-inflammatory pigment changes do not enter the score. The technical check here covers the weighted sum, including the permitted half points, and does not approve severity cutoffs, clinical decisions, official translations or instrument rights.
