Method · Limits of application
Apgar 1953: 5 signs 0–2; AAP/ACOG 2015 follow-up at 1/5 min and repeat if <7
Apgar records the newborn’s condition and response to resuscitation; it does not determine the initial steps of resuscitation, diagnose asphyxia or predict individual mortality or neurological outcomes on its own. A score assigned during resuscitation is not equivalent to one obtained during spontaneous breathing. Prematurity, maternal medicines and variability in the examination can influence the result.
Conditions of use
Check the population, units, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and version in the original source. A result alone does not establish a diagnosis, discharge decision or prescription.

Relationship with cancer research
General context — relationship to be defined
A resource for general clinical contexts. This edition does not assign a specific oncological relationship; selecting it for a study requires a justified question, population and purpose.
